Ulsan's position between Gyeongju to the north and Busan to the south makes it an excellent base for day trips. Head south to Busan for Korea's most famous beach at Haeundae, big-city nightlife, and the country's largest aquarium. Head north to Gyeongju, the ancient Silla capital, for UNESCO-listed Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto, burial mounds, and mountain hiking. Pohang, two hours north, has a walkable downtown, the Jukdo fish market, and ferries to Ulleungdo island. West of the city, Tongdo Aqua Fantasia water park offers family-friendly fun in a mountain setting.
