Things to Do

Ulsan spreads its activities across widely separated districts, so plan around where you are staying. The Bangudae Petroglyphs are the city's most significant historical sight — 6,000-year-old Bronze Age rock carvings, among the oldest whale hunting images in the world. The Ulsan Museum covers the full arc from those prehistoric origins to the modern industrial city, and sits beside Ulsan Grand Park, the largest urban park in Korea, with cycling, a butterfly house, and a petting zoo.

The Taehwa River Eco Park bamboo grove is unexpectedly beautiful — thousands of bamboo stalks along the riverbank that attract migratory cranes each winter. Ulgi and Daewangam Park on the coast combines a clifftop walk with views of the Hyundai shipyard. Sports fans can catch Ulsan Hyundai FC at Munsu Football Stadium, one of the better K League atmospheres in the country. The Ulsan Culture and Arts Center hosts touring theatre and opera. For hikers, the Yeongnam Alps offer Mt. Gajisan (1,240m), Mt. Sinbulsan, and Paraeso Waterfall, most easily reached by car or taxi.
