Ulsan's three main beaches each have distinct character, though none will win awards for cleanliness. Ilsan Beach in Bangeojin is the closest to downtown and sits next to Ulgi Park and Daewangam Rock. Jinha Beach to the south has a long crescent of sand with views of illuminated Myeongseondo Island at night, though the water quality does not always match the tourist brochures. Gangdong Beach on the northeast coast offers black pebbles and windswept seclusion along the Jeongja coast, with a lively fish market at Jeongja Harbour. For a better beach experience, head south to Busan's Haeundae or Songjeong beaches, both about ninety minutes by express bus from Samsandong terminal.
