Eating Out

Ulsan covers most major cuisines if you know where to look, though there is often only one restaurant for each. Indian, Mexican, Italian, and American options exist alongside the expected Korean food on every street corner. The western chains -- T.G.I. Fridays, Outback Steakhouse -- serve familiar menus at western prices. For better value, the foreigner-run bars in Seongnamdong do excellent homemade western food. Korean-Chinese restaurants offer a local twist on Chinese cooking that is worth trying. On the outskirts, the Herb Castle near Gyeongju and other countryside restaurants surrounded by mountains and rice fields are worth the trip.
