Sinjeong Market

Traditional street market in the heart of Nam-gu district

Sinjeong Market is one of Ulsan's traditional covered street markets, a maze of stalls selling fresh produce, dried fish, seasonal vegetables, clothing, hardware, and household goods. It has the organized chaos and smell of real Korean market life — quite different from the sanitised experience of a department store food hall.

The fresh food section is where most visitors gravitate: vendors set out the day's catch alongside mountains of kimchi ingredients, fermented pastes, and pickled vegetables. This is a good place to buy Korean snacks and dried foods to take home. The clothing and accessories stalls are priced for locals, which means excellent value. Go on a weekday morning for the full market experience — by afternoon some vendors begin packing up.
