The Taipei Performing Arts Center, opened in 2022 to a design by Rem Koolhaas's OMA, is one of the boldest new buildings in the city — a cube of three theatres clustered around a central block, the most eye-catching being the Globe Playhouse, a giant sphere that bulges out of one face. A public 'visit loop' lets non-ticket-holders walk through the building's backstage spaces.
It stands directly across from Jiantan metro station at the edge of the Shilin night market, so the radical architecture and the city's most famous street-food market sit side by side. Three resident stages programme theatre, dance and opera.
