Built in 1854 in the heart of old Wanhua, the Qingshan Temple is one of the four most active Taoist temples in Taipei and a near contemporary of nearby Longshan Temple. The principal deity is Qingshan Wang, the green-mountain king, whose image was brought to Taipei from Quanzhou in mainland China by Fujianese settlers who attributed a cholera epidemic's lifting to his intervention.
The temple courtyard is small but the carved wooden brackets, stone columns and roof decoration are particularly fine — the kind of working temple that gets less attention than Longshan but rewards a careful look. The annual Qingshan Wang procession in late October is one of the largest folk-religious events in Taipei.
