Fika Fika — Swedish slang for a coffee break — was founded by the 2013 Nordic Roaster Champion James Chen and is the spiritual home of Taipei's third-wave coffee scene. The flagship cafe in Zhongshan is a bright, clean, white-tiled space with a serious espresso bar at the front and a substantial pour-over counter at the back. The roasts are light to medium, in the Scandinavian style; coffees are sold by single origin and the staff are happy to talk you through them.
The room is busy but never frenetic, the small range of pastries are good (and from the same family of bakeries that supplies the city's better hotels), and the menu is in both Mandarin and English. Pricier than Taipei's coffee average but worth it.
