The Kohi Novruz — Palace of Navruz — is a large ceremonial building that functions as an exhibition and events venue, most prominently during the spring festival of Navruz (Persian New Year, around March 21). The building itself is an example of post-independence Tajik monumental architecture: large, ornate, blending traditional decorative motifs with the scale of Soviet state architecture.
Navruz is the most important festival in Tajikistan — a pre-Islamic Persian spring celebration that the Soviets suppressed and independent Tajikistan has enthusiastically revived. If you're in Dushanbe around March 21, the celebrations at Kohi Novruz and in the parks and streets of the city are genuinely festive and worth timing a visit around.
