Pom Phet Fort

Best-preserved riverside fort at the rivers' confluence

The best-preserved of Ayutthaya's riverside fortifications. Pom Phet sits at the southeastern corner of the island where the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak rivers meet. The restored brick walls and watchtowers give a good picture of how the island city was defended. Historical records mention dozens of forts along the waterways, but this is the only one that has been substantially reconstructed.
