In the western part of the historical park, an enormous reclining Buddha lies in the open, its viharn long since disappeared. The statue is 42 metres long and 8 metres high — large enough that visitors walk alongside it rather than around it. Monks regularly come to drape fresh orange robes over the image, which creates one of the more vivid photographic moments in Ayutthaya.
The site is quieter than the central ruins and easier to have to yourself in the early morning. There is not much else here besides the great reclining figure and a few smaller brick fragments, but that is enough.
