Khao Luang is the main mountain hike in Ramkhamhaeng National Park, with four high points around 1,160-1,200 metres. The trail to the ridge is short but steep, and the reward is a cooler forested summit area with sunrise views over the Sukhothai countryside.
The climb can be done as a hard day hike or as an overnight trip if the park allows it. Check the seasonal opening before going, since the mountain often closes during the hot season, and carry enough water for the steep first section.
