Phra Mae Ya Shrine belongs to living Sukhothai rather than the ruins that draw most visitors west of town. The shrine centres on a stone figure of Phra Mae Ya, a protective presence deeply respected by local people.
It is a short stop, but a useful one if you want Sukhothai to be more than temples in the historical park. Come quietly, watch how residents make offerings, and then continue into the modern town for markets or food.
