Behram Paşa Mosque

Largest 16th-century Ottoman mosque in Diyarbakır, striking striped stonework

Built around 1564, Behram Paşa Mosque is the largest Ottoman mosque in Diyarbakır and shows the same alternating black basalt and white limestone stonework that characterises the city's religious architecture. The single-domed prayer hall is spacious and serene; the courtyard has a central fountain and is shaded by old trees. It's quieter than Ulu Cami and sees fewer visitors, which makes it a good choice if you want to sit and absorb the architecture without a crowd. Non-Muslim visitors are welcome outside prayer times.
