Kechi Burcu

Massive bastion on Diyarbakir's black basalt city walls, looking over the old city edge.

Kechi Burcu is one of the great basalt towers in Diyarbakir's wall circuit, a place where the scale of the fortifications becomes impossible to miss. The old city walls are the headline here, but individual bastions like this give the walk its rhythm: heavy black stone, sudden views, and the feeling of a city built to hold its edge.

Use it as part of a longer circuit rather than a one-stop sight. The best visit links the walls with the gates, Ulu Cami, Hasan Pasha Hani, and the views toward the Hevsel Gardens. Diyarbakir rewards slow walking, especially where the fortifications meet ordinary neighbourhood life.
