Dört Ayaklı Minare (Four-Legged Minaret)

Minaret balanced on four basalt pillars over a passageway

The minaret of the Kasım Padişah mosque is one of Diyarbakır's most photographed sights — a slender tower raised on four basalt pillars, leaving a passageway open underneath. Built in the 16th century, it sits at a small square in the old city. The technical audacity of the design has puzzled architects ever since.
