Crimean Memorial Church

The Crimean Memorial Church is a neo-Gothic Anglican church in Beyoglu, built in the late 19th century by the British community in memory of soldiers who died in the Crimean War. Its pointed arches and grey stone would look at home in northwestern Europe, which is exactly what makes it stand out in Istanbul.

The church is a quiet counterpoint to the busy streets around Galata and Istiklal. It is most interesting as part of a walk through Beyoglu's older cosmopolitan layers: embassies, churches, schools, apartments, and side-street institutions left by the city's Levantine and foreign communities.
