Chor-Bakr

Necropolis outside Bukhara with courtyards, tombs, and quiet religious architecture.

Chor-Bakr is a necropolis outside Bukhara, sometimes called a city of the dead because of its lanes, courtyards, and family tombs. It is quieter than the old city's headline monuments, but its scale and atmosphere make it memorable.

The site works best as a short trip from central Bukhara with transport arranged in advance. Come for mood and architecture rather than museum-style interpretation, and leave time to walk slowly through the complex.
