Fayzulla Khodjaev House Museum

A merchant mansion in Bukhara that shows the rooms, courtyards, and politics of a wealthy local family.

The Fayzulla Khodjaev House Museum is one of Bukhara's better stops for understanding domestic life behind the old city's decorated facades. The house belonged to a wealthy merchant family and preserves the kind of courtyards, carved wood, painted ceilings, and separate reception spaces that made a prosperous Bukharan home both private and theatrical.

Its later association with Fayzulla Khodjaev, an early Soviet-era political figure, adds a more complicated layer. Come for the architecture first, then stay for the story of how Bukhara's merchant elite collided with revolution, reform, and repression. It is quieter than the big madrasas, and that is part of its value.
