Ak Mosque

Small 19th-century quarter mosque near the Tash Hauli, named for its white-painted columns

The Ak Mosque, the White Mosque, is one of several small quarter mosques scattered through Itchan Kala — a much more modest building than the Juma Mosque a few blocks away. It was built in the early 19th century to serve the residents of the eastern part of the old town and takes its name from the whitewashed wooden columns that hold up the porch.

The interior is a single small hypostyle hall with another row of carved wooden columns. The combined ticket covers entry, but the mosque is more often visited as part of a wander through this corner of Itchan Kala than as a destination in itself. Combine with the Tash Hauli next door.
