The Allakuli Khan Madrasah was completed in 1835 as part of the same building campaign that produced the Tash Hauli Palace across the street. Its main portal is one of the great pieces of decorative tilework in Itchan Kala: a vast pointed arch sheathed in deep-blue majolica with white floral panels and Kufic inscriptions running across the top.
The courtyard is small but lined with the original two storeys of student cells, some now occupied by craft sellers and small museum displays. A side gate leads into a covered bazaar — the Tim — that once handled the trade between the madrasah and the palace across the street.
