The Muhammad Rahim Khan Madrasah was built in the 1870s — late in the khanate's history — and faces the Kunya Ark across an open square in the centre of Itchan Kala. It is one of the largest madrassas, two storeys arranged around a courtyard, with a particularly fine carved wooden door at the main entrance.
The cells house a museum dedicated to Muhammad Rahim Khan II (who took the pen name Feruz) — a 19th-century reformer, poet, and patron of music whose name is still revered in Khiva. The court costume on display and the carved wooden manuscripts are the highlights.
