A tiny wooden pagoda raised on a single stone pillar above a lotus pond, designed in 1049 by the Emperor Ly Thai Tong after he dreamed of a bodhisattva handing him a child on a lotus flower. The French blew up the original on their way out in 1954; this is a faithful reconstruction from a year later. Small and quick to visit, but a beloved image of Hanoi and easily combined with the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum complex next door.
