Brisbane's main cultural institutions — the Queensland Museum, Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, and State Library — are clustered together at the South Bank Cultural Precinct south of the river. The South Bank Parklands alongside offer a riverfront beach, gardens, and a pleasant strip of cafes and restaurants. The Story Bridge is the city's most recognisable landmark, and the heritage precinct at Howard Smith Wharves beneath it is the best place to eat and drink riverside. The historic buildings of the city centre — the Old Windmill and Newstead House — give some sense of Brisbane's convict origins and colonial past. Mount Coot-tha Lookout provides the best panoramic view of the city, while the Kangaroo Point Cliffs are the best river-level viewpoint. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the world's oldest koala sanctuary and well worth the trip out.
