Hells Gates

Hells Gates is the rocky cleft at the far eastern tip of the Noosa National Park coastal walk — a forty-five minute walk from the headland trailhead. Two near-vertical cliffs frame a narrow gap directly above the open ocean, and the wind funnels through with enough force to make staying back from the edge an obvious idea.

The view is the most dramatic in the park: open Coral Sea on three sides, with the long curve of Sunshine Beach visible to the south. On a clear winter day from June to October, this is the best place in Noosa to watch migrating humpback whales — they often pass within a few hundred metres of the cliffs.
