The Noosa River curves around the western side of the town, a wide, calm tidal system that empties into the Pacific just north of Main Beach. The lower reach, around Gympie Terrace in neighbouring Noosaville, is the social heart of the river — picnic lawns, family-friendly cafes, and a long line of moored sailboats and SUPs.
The river is the best way to escape the Hastings Street crowd. Hire a kayak, a small electric BBQ boat (no licence required), or a stand-up paddleboard from one of the rental outfits along Gympie Terrace. An hour on the water at sunset, with the pelicans wheeling overhead and the light slanting across the sandbanks, is one of the loveliest things to do in Noosa.
