Toowoomba sits high on the Great Dividing Range, about 130 km west of Brisbane, and feels very different from coastal Queensland. The air is cooler, the streets are lined with older Queenslander houses and churches, and the city's strongest identity is horticultural: parks, gardens, jacarandas, and the long-running Carnival of Flowers.
The city is not a place for a hurried checklist, but it is a good one-day detour if you are already in southeast Queensland or crossing the Darling Downs. Picnic Point gives the big escarpment view. Queens Park and Botanic Gardens and Laurel Bank Park explain the Garden City nickname.
There is also a useful inland Queensland story here. Cobb+Co Museum covers horse-drawn transport and regional life, while the city's lanes and centre have enough cafes, murals, and old buildings to make an unforced afternoon.
