Robe is a small Limestone Coast town that still feels like a port, even though its busiest shipping days are long gone. Stone buildings, a customs house, fishing boats, Norfolk pines, and the red-and-white obelisk on the headland give it more character than most holiday towns of its size.
The best way to understand Robe is to walk the coast. Start around the old port and Customs House, then follow the cliffs toward the obelisk and lighthouse. The sea is often rough here, and the coastline has the battered look of a place that never made shipping easy.
South of town, Little Dip Conservation Park adds dune lakes, birdlife, and empty beaches. Robe works as a relaxed stop between Adelaide and Mount Gambier, but it is not just a lunch break. Give it a day if you like maritime history and wild coast.
