The Ovens River running through Bright offers a string of swimming holes that are the local answer to summer heat. The best spots are along the river bank near the caravan park and behind the main town, where the river runs over smooth granite boulders into clear, cold pools. The water comes straight off the mountains and is refreshing even on the hottest days.
Children's Pool, a shallow eddy near the town's main reserve, is the most accessible and most popular family spot. For quieter swimming, walk upstream along the river path for 15–20 minutes to find less frequented pools. The river is safe for swimming in normal conditions but rises quickly after heavy rain — if the water is brown or fast, stay out.
