The Cemetery of the Martyrs, also called the Heroes' Cemetery, sits on a hillside above the city and commemorates partisans from the local communist resistance during World War II. Marble plaques and a central monument list the names of those killed in the fight against the Italian and German occupations.
The walk up is the chief pleasure — broad steps lead through pine trees and the view back over Korçë to the plain and the mountains beyond is the best in the city. Locals come up at sunset.
