The Frontzate is a former railway line converted into a cycling and walking route between Nieuwpoort and Diksmuide. During the First World War the raised track formed part of the front line, with flooded polders on one side and Allied positions on the other.
The route is flat and easy to follow, with bunkers, military cemeteries, and other wartime remains along the way. It works best for visitors who want to pair a quiet ride through the Yser landscape with the history explained at Westfront Nieuwpoort.
