Ramskapelle Road Military Cemetery lies just inland from Nieuwpoort, in the flat polder landscape where the Yser Front hardened during the First World War. Rows of Commonwealth headstones mark a quieter piece of the same war landscape interpreted at the King Albert I Memorial and Westfront Nieuwpoort.
The cemetery is most meaningful as part of a broader Yser or Flanders Fields route. The openness of the fields matters: it helps explain both the vulnerability of the front and the deliberate flooding that shaped the fighting here.
