The Saint-Laurens Tower is the surviving remnant of Nieuwpoort's medieval parish church, left standing as a stark landmark near the old town. Its ruined brick mass says a great deal about the damage the town suffered in the First World War and the layered rebuilding that followed.
It is not a long visit, but it belongs on a walk through Nieuwpoort because it anchors the town's older history. Pair it with the locks and riverfront to understand why this small coastal place has mattered strategically as well as seaside-wise.
