The best souvenirs from Sarajevo are the handmade copper and brass goods from Kazandžiluk — džezva coffee sets, trays, and small decorative items — and traditional Bosnian kilims and textiles from the shops in Baščaršija. Knifemaking is another traditional craft; a handmade Bosnian knife (nož) with a wooden handle is practical, legal, and representative of the region's metalworking tradition.
For contemporary shopping, Sarajevo's malls and high streets are unremarkable. The old town market (Markale) is worth a visit for fresh produce, especially the sweet Bosnian strawberries in summer and the grapes and plums in autumn.
