Sarajevo rewards explorers: the Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, Yugoslav, and post-war layers of the city are all visible and all worth engaging with. The Old Town (Baščaršija) makes a natural starting point, but don't stop there — the Tunnel of Hope museum, Karosta's military ruins, and the city's remarkable concentration of religious buildings spread across several neighbourhoods.
