Mostar — with its famous reconstructed Ottoman bridge over the Neretva — is the most popular day trip from Sarajevo, about 130 kilometres southwest. The train journey is scenic and takes around two and a half hours. Bus is faster. Travnik, the former Ottoman capital of Bosnia, is an hour north and worth a half-day for its fortress and old bazaar.
