Bilino Polje is the flat ground on the Bosna immediately north of central Zenica. There is little for the casual visitor to see today beyond a memorial marker and a football stadium named for the field, but for anyone interested in Bosnian medieval history this is one of the country's significant sites.
Combine it with the museum in town, which gives the context that the field itself does not provide.
A story
On 8 April 1203, on the plain at Bilino Polje just north of today's centre, Ban Kulin and the leaders of the Bosnian Church abjured a list of suspected heresies before a papal legate, Giovanni da Casamari. The episode is the earliest dateable event in Bosnian religious history and is still cited in arguments over whether the Bosnian Church was Cathar, Bogomil, or simply a regional Latin variant.
