The Sultan Ahmed (Čaršijska) Mosque is the central religious building of old Zenica, built in the early 17th century during the Ottoman period. The masonry is simple, the porch carries six columns under a low wooden roof, and the single minaret is modest in scale — this is a working neighbourhood mosque rather than a monumental one.
It sits on the main pedestrian street through the old core. The surrounding bazaar quarter, although stripped of most of its Ottoman fabric by 20th-century rebuilding, still has the rough shape of a čaršija, with shops and cafés along narrow lanes.
