Helsingør is dominated by Kronborg Castle, as it has been for four centuries, but the town itself rewards time beyond the castle walls. The medieval street pattern, the old merchant houses of Stengade, the underground maritime museum, and the short crossing to Sweden make it one of the more interesting day trips from Copenhagen — or an easy base in its own right.
