Sankt Nikolai Kirke sits on the highest point of the old town, a brick church dedicated to the patron saint of sailors. The current building dates from 1915-18, after the medieval church was demolished as too small, but it stands on foundations that go back to the 13th century. The interior is plain and bright, with a model ship hanging from the ceiling — a common feature in Bornholm churches and a reminder that this is a sailors' island.
The tower is the tallest in Rønne and a useful landmark when you are trying to find your way back from a wander through the lanes.
