La Grande Casse

La Grande Casse is the highest summit of the Vanoise massif at 3,855 metres, the unmistakable pyramid you can see to the east from the upper Courchevel pistes. It is a serious alpine peak, glaciated on its northern flank, and requires rope, crampons and ideally a guide if you want to climb it.

For the rest of us, it is the dramatic horizon line. The best views are from the Saulire summit or from the Col de la Loze above 1850 — bring binoculars and you can pick out climbers as small dots crossing the upper glacier on a clear summer morning.
