Le Racou

The transition point between sandy beaches and rocky Cote Vermeille

The southern tip of Argelès beach, where the long sandy coast of Languedoc-Roussillon abruptly ends and the rocky Cote Vermeille begins. Le Racou is built up with small holiday villas and bungalows, has its own modest beach and a few good restaurants, and feels quite separate from the main Argelès tourist scene a kilometre to the north.

It's the obvious launch point for the Sentier Littoral coastal walk south to Collioure. The beach is quieter than the central Argelès strip, with no water-sports operators and a slightly more local feel — Catalan families, surfboarders, the occasional fisherman. A short bus ride or 30-minute walk from central Argelès.
