The Tierpark Cottbus (Cottbus Zoo) is a compact but well-maintained zoo set in parkland on the southeastern edge of the city centre. It holds around 1,400 animals across 180 species, with a particular strength in African savanna animals and a well-regarded big cat section. The enclosures are relatively spacious for a city zoo and the whole place has a pleasant, unhurried atmosphere.
The zoo is popular with families from Cottbus and the surrounding region. It makes for a good half-day, especially combined with a visit to Branitz Palace, which is in the same general direction from the city centre.
