Jesuitenkirche and Jesuitenplatz

The seventeenth-century Jesuit church and the small square around it form one of the prettiest corners of the rebuilt Altstadt. The church facade is pure post-Tridentine Baroque, restored after the war; the interior is plainer than the front suggests, with a fine stuccoed ceiling and a Baroque high altar.

The square outside, ringed with cafe terraces, is one of the best places to sit on a warm evening. A statue of Johannes Müller, the local philologist and brother of the Brothers Grimm collaborator, stands in the middle.
