Rashi House (Jewish Museum Worms)

Museum on a thousand years of Worms's Jewish community

A small, calmly arranged museum in the rebuilt Rashi House next to the synagogue, telling the story of the Worms Jewish community from its 10th-century origins to its destruction in 1938–1945 and the modest post-war revival. The name comes from the medieval scholar Rashi (1040–1105), who studied here as a young man.

Exhibits cover the great medieval rabbinic schools, the persecution of 1096 during the First Crusade (when much of the community was massacred), the Renaissance recovery, the Enlightenment, the long 19th century, and the rupture of the Nazi years. Modestly priced ticket; allow about an hour.
