Judengasse

Medieval Jewish quarter street, now an open-air heritage walk

The narrow lane that formed the spine of medieval Jewish Worms — running roughly 250 metres from the Rashi Gate at one end to the Judenfriedhof at the other. The medieval houses are gone, but fragments of the old wall, the synagogue compound, several memorial markers, and the reconstructed Rashi Gate remain.

A self-guided walk along the Judengasse, taking in the Synagogue, the mikveh, the Levy Synagogue, the Rashi House Museum, and the Heiliger Sand Cemetery, makes for the best single morning in Worms — a complete reading of the ShUM Jewish heritage in under three hours.
