Bunte Republik Neustadt, usually shortened to BRN, is the annual street festival that takes over Dresden's Neustadt with music, food stalls, courtyard events, and a proudly improvised neighborhood feel. It reflects the district's alternative identity more directly than any single bar or gallery.
The festival only matters if your visit overlaps the dates, and crowds can be heavy. At the right time, though, it is one of the best ways to understand why Neustadt is Dresden's liveliest quarter after dark.
