The Elbe Valley east of central Dresden is a broad cultural landscape of river meadows, villas, bridges, and views back toward the city. It was once a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but lost that status after the Waldschlosschen Bridge was built through the protected landscape.
It is still one of Dresden's best areas for a riverside walk or cycle ride, especially where the slopes, river, and historic city views line up.
