Weimar is well connected by rail. Direct trains run from Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig, Erfurt, Frankfurt, and Nuremberg. Erfurt, fifteen minutes away on the ICE high-speed line, is the main hub for onward connections.
By road, Weimar sits just off the E40/A4 motorway running east–west through Thuringia. From the north, take the A9 to the Hermsdorfer Kreuz interchange and then east on the A4.
There is no commercial airport in Weimar. The nearest airport with regular services is Erfurt-Weimar Airport, about 15 km northwest of the city, though most visitors flying in will find it easier to route through Frankfurt or Leipzig/Halle airports and take the train.
