Megali Panagia is a historic monastery in the hills of Samos, near Koumaradei. It is known for its frescoes and enclosed courtyard atmosphere, offering a quieter religious stop between the island's beaches, villages, and ancient sites.
The monastery works best as part of a slow drive across the island's interior. It is not as famous as the Heraion or the Tunnel of Eupalinos, but it adds a living Orthodox layer to Samos's older classical story.
